Solar water heater panels installed!

This past fall, New Urban Farmers launched an online Kickstarter campaign to raise funds to build a solar water heater and composting systems to keep our domes warm so that we may grow throughout the year. January 2012 marked the installation of six solar water heater panels. They were mounted on a wooden stand that volunteers from Johnson and Wales University built with help from our friend Fabio. The stand was constructed on a cold December Saturday but our crew toughed it out. We mounted the stand on top of the south facing hillside behind the aquaponics dome to receive the most sunlight during the day. You can check out specifications of the solar water heater panels here http://www.teladaq.com/heliatos/ds/sw37Datasheet.pdf.

We will update again and let you know how the panels perform. A big thank you to all our Kickstarter backers for giving us the capacity to get this job done right! We would also like to thank our many community volunteers from Johnson and Wales, Galego Court, and Pawtucket.
