An early spring, what a pleasant surprise indeed!

Seeds and young minds are being nourished here at Galego court!
On our first volunteer day of the season I had asked the children here at Galego Court what they enjoy most about the Garden of Life; they repeatedly responded with a resounding answer, "learning."

We would have welcomed this early onset of Spring with open arms, if our hands had not already been filled with tools as we dashed into the gardens!

What better way to spend an afternoon with friends?
Charles E. Shea High School, Front St (pawtucket), and Perry St (central falls) will all soon be home to community gardens thanks to our dedicated team and friends in the community! At Shea we are working with "Mrs. B" (Margaret Battersby) and the after school club "SMILE" (a club for students interested in math and science) to build a community garden out of wood, paint and love. Everything grown, although supplying a fresh snack to the students involved, will be primarily donated to those in need. Similarly, we are working with The Learning Community (a public charter school located in Central Falls, R.I.) to run an after-school program in an empty plot on Perry St (CF). The program will serve as a bridge between youth and nature while transforming an underused plot of land into a community asset. The food grown will be prepared by the Eco-Chef's after-school program to be shared by all of those involved.

With so much already under-way and a successful volunteer day under our belts we are enthusiastically embracing each new day with plans for the future! In celebration of Earth day many locations in Pawtucket are going to host to various clean-ups and Eco-initiatives. Galego Court will be one of the locations hosting this day of celebration and community engagement; all whom are interested are encouraged to join us or to get active in your own community!

From April 16th until the 19th the Students for Environmental Action of CCRI Flanagan will be hosting "Healthy Planet, Healthy People: A Sustainable Living Convention." If you are interested in learning about urban aquaponics or sustainable building methods, come to this event and hear from members of our team speak on these intriguing and progressive topics!
